Many people wonder how to organize coupons. I have found the best way for me is to use a binder. Here is what you will need:
3 Ring Binder
Dividers
Binder Pockets
3 Pocket Currency Protective Pages
Collectible Card 9 Pocket Protective Pages
Clear Sheet Protectors
Pencil Pouch (not needed if you purchase the binder I suggested above)
Calculator (not needed if you use your smartphone)
6-inch Scissors
Pens-I prefer 1 black, 1 blue, & 1 red.
Notepad- I prefer 4x6 Lined Post It Notes.
Most of these items can be purchased at an office supply store, big box store, dollar store, or amazon.com. If you click on each item above, it will take you to that item on Amazon.com. All of the items are prime eligible too!
When you have all the items listed above, you can begin to build your binder!
Place the Calculator, Scissors, Pens, and Notepad in the Pencil Pouch. This is the first thing you should see when you open your binder. Next, I place one 3-pocket currency page in the binder. I use this first page to place my coupons for each shopping trip/transaction I am planning.
Now let's start separating your coupons into categories. You may want to adjust to your own preferences. I have 10 dividers in my Binder categorized in the following order, Grocery, Beverage, Cold/Refrigerated, Frozen, Pets, Health & Beauty Aids (HBA), Cleaning Supplies, Paper Products, Other, and Stores. Within each category, my manufacturer coupons (MFQ) are alphabetical according to food type (not brand). For example, I start with bread, then bbq sauce, then cake mixes/frosting, and then cereal. Next I put them in alphabetical order by brand, so for cereals, I have a pocket for General Mills, a pocket for Kellogg's, and a pocket for Post. I suggest doing this for all your MFQ through "Other".
So what do I have in "other"? I use "other" as a place for items not categorised under all the rest of the dividers. I have MFQ for Filtrete Filters, Bic Multi-purpose Lighters, Bic pens, Sharpie's, Batteries, Morton System Saver Salt, Light Bulbs, etc.
When you get to "Stores" I suggest at least 1 Currency Page and 1 Binder Pocket for each store you shop at, that prints their own store coupons(SQ), for example, Publix (PQ), Target(TQ), Dollar General(DGQ), Winn Dixie(WDQ), SweetBay(SBQ), WalGreens(WGQ), etc. I place the store coupons in the currency page and the current sale flyer(s) in the Binder Pocket. I also use Binder Pockets for BJ's Wholesale, Bed Bath & Beyond, and restaurants.
Now I place a couple of the 9 pocket collectible pages in the binder. I place gift cards, Punch Cards, Victoria Secret Coupons, Bath and Body Works coupons, and loyalty cards.
The last thing to go into the back of the binder is Coupon Policies from all the stores you shop at!! Print them from their website, or ask for a copy at the customer service desk, put them in a sheet protector page, and place in your binder. If you are new to couponing, I suggest placing this page between your currency page & binder pocket of that store.
Congratulations! You just built your own coupon organizing system! If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at Momma Knows Deals.
